Ahead of the Navratri fasting season, Two Brothers India Farms has launched a new range of fasting attas comprising Kuttu Atta, Singhara Atta and Unsprouted Rajgira Atta. Made with a single ingredient each, the flours are ground in small batches to help retain the natural character and taste of the grain.
Fasting has traditionally been a practice of restraint, simplicity and conscious eating. Yet, the modern fasting plate presents an interesting contradiction: while the intention may be to simplify food choices and give the body a break, many vrat menus today are increasingly shaped by convenience and preparation methods rather than an understanding of the ingredient itself. Two Brothers India Farms believes this presents an opportunity to reconnect with the original intent of fasting by bringing attention back to traditional foods and the ingredients behind them.
For generations, Indian households have turned to ingredients such as Kuttu, Singhara and Rajgira during periods of fasting. These traditional foods have long been part of India’s culinary heritage, but the way they are sourced and consumed is changing. Ingredients that were once commonly purchased loose from local markets are increasingly moving into packaged formats, creating a need for greater consistency, ingredient transparency and trust in what goes into the food.
With fasting foods becoming a more visible part of India’s packaged-food landscape, traditional vrat flours are emerging as a distinct seasonal category. The new range by Two Brothers introduces these three flours in a format that prioritises ingredient transparency, minimal processing and traceability.
The new range includes:
Kuttu Atta: Finely milled from buckwheat, Kuttu Atta has a hearty, earthy flavour and contains approx. 11.40g of protein per 100g. A familiar fasting-season staple, it can be used for dishes such as Kuttu Pakoras, Puris and Halwa.
Singhara Atta: Made from water chestnut, the flour has a light texture and subtly sweet, earthy flavour. Traditionally consumed during fasting, it can be used across savoury and sweet dishes including Singhara Puris, Parathas and Halwa.
Unsprouted Rajgira Atta: Made from native-variety unsprouted amaranth, which is kept whole and unaltered before being ground in small batches. It contains approx. 14.53g of protein per 100g and can be used for Rajgira Laddoos, Thalipeeth, Porridge and Kheer.
Commenting on the launch, Satyajit Hange, Co-founder & Farmer, Two Brothers India Farms, said, “Fasting has always been closely connected to the way our ancestors understood food, choosing simple, nourishing ingredients that were close to the source. Kuttu, Singhara and Rajgira are not new discoveries; they have been part of Indian food traditions for generations. With our fasting range, we wanted to stay true to that wisdom and bring these traditional flours to modern kitchens in their most authentic form.”
Ajinkya Hange, Co-founder & Farmer, Two Brothers India Farms, added, “How an ingredient is processed matters just as much as the ingredient itself. Grinding in very large commercial batches can generate excessive heat, which can alter the natural character and taste of a grain. We therefore work in smaller batches, keeping the process closer to the ingredient and letting the grain remain the hero.”
The launch extends Two Brothers India Farms’ growing portfolio of clean-label, minimally processed and traceable pantry staples, which includes atta, ghee, cold-pressed oils, native grains, jaggery and other everyday foods. The fasting range has been introduced ahead of Shardiya Navratri, when Kuttu, Singhara and Rajgira traditionally become a larger part of fasting menus across Indian households.
The products are available in 500 g packs on the Two Brothers India Farms website. Kuttu Atta is priced at an MRP of INR 245, Singhara Atta at INR 365 and Unsprouted Rajgira Atta at INR 225.
