New printable synthetic paper combines paper-like aesthetics with high tear strength, dimensional stability and versatile printing capabilities
Cosmo Films, a global leader in specialty films for packaging, lamination, labelling and industrial applications, has expanded its synthetic paper portfolio with the launch of High Tear Resistant Flexo/Thermal Transfer printable – Both Side Coated product. The products based out of a polypropylene (PP) sheet film has been designed to deliver the look and feel of paper with the durability and tear resistance of plastic film.
The new synthetic paper features a co-extruded and matte-coated surface on both sides, providing a paper-like appearance while enabling high-quality printing on both faces. The product has been developed for applications where conventional paper may be susceptible to tearing or damage during handling. To ensure this, the product combines high tear strength, dimensional stability and durability with compatibility across multiple printing and converting processes. The product also supports UV Offset, water-based and UV Flexo, as well as Thermal Transfer printing on both sides, enabling brands and converters to create high-quality, durable tags and labels. It can also be die-punched and precision perforated, allowing greater flexibility for customised applications.
Commenting on the launch, Mr. Kulbhushan Malik, Global Business Head, Cosmo Films, said, “Synthetic paper is emerging as an important specialty film category as brands and businesses look for materials that combine the visual appeal of paper with greater durability and performance. With our new High Tear Resistant Flexo/Thermal Transfer synthetic paper, we are addressing applications where tear resistance, print performance and dimensional stability are critical. The ability to print on both sides across multiple printing technologies further expands its versatility for demanding tag and identification applications.”
Available in 125, 150, 200 and 250 micron thicknesses, the product is offered in reel form with a maximum width of 1,550 mm. The PP-based sheet is also FDA approved, supporting its use in applications requiring stringent standards for material safety and food-contact applications. The product is particularly suited for durable tags and identification labels, including garment hang tags, tree tags, airport transfer tags, horticulture identification tags and cattle identification tags, among other applications where resistance to tearing and repeated handling is important.
The launch builds on Cosmo Films’ continued focus on specialty films supported by its R&D capabilities and focus on application-specific film solutions. Its synthetic paper portfolio already includes products designed as durable alternatives to conventional paper, including non-tearable, matte-coated solutions for specialised applications. With a strong R&D team of 30+ highly qualified professionals, Cosmo Films continues to invest in developing specialty and sustainable film solutions across packaging, labeling and industrial applications.
